PERTH Football Club will team up with Diabetes WA once again to raise awareness for diabetes in their Round 16 match as part of National Diabetes Week 2010.

The team will act as ambassadors for National Diabetes Week at this weekend’s WAFL game against Swan Districts at EFTel Oval on Saturday, July 10.

Type 2 diabetes is a disease that can be prevented in 60% of cases through developing healthy lifestyle choices and keeping active.The Perth Football Club coaches and players are experts on maintaining physical fitness and making long term changes for living a healthier life.

At the game, Diabetes WA Board President Moira Watson will be tossing the coin to celebrate the commencement of National Diabetes Week.

West Perth’s experience proved the difference in the end as they managed9 to hold off Perth in a scrappy encounter at EFTel Oval on Saturday.

In fine conditions Perth kicked first to the EFTel.com end of the ground. The Falcons kicked the first goal of the match and were looking the better of the two sides early on.

Reigning Sandover Medalist Ross Younger kicked Perth’s first major at the 7 minute mark in a match that was proving very even. Andrew McDougall was continuing his fine form from last week and his mobility around the ground was a real feature of the first term.

First gamer Haydn Busher kicked Perth’s second goal close to quarter time, and at the first break the home side led the visitors by a point after kicking 2 goals 3 to 2 goals 2.

The second quarter saw the Falcons jump out of the blocks early through their dangerous forward line of Anthony Tsalikis and Brent Lecras. West Perth then kicked consecutive goals through Caleb Shadbolt as they took control of the match.

Perth was struggling at times finding a tall target across half forward and some vital turn overs resulted in goals to the Falcons. Perth did manage a late goal in the term through Justin Bollenhagen, however at half time they trailed West Perth by 4 goals.

The third quarter really saw Perth lift the tempo as some of their key play makers in Steven Armstrong and Tendai Mzungu started to pick up important possessions around the ground.
